I have had many different blogs, all of which I, obviously, assumed would stick, yet none of them have.  I would post two or three things, which I would then get bored of and start all over.  Hopefully this time it will be different.  Hopefully this time I will have found my niche.

I tend to start getting really well at doing something, and then abandoning it because I become bored of it.  This time, I am going to push myself to keep going.

1984 by George Orwell

George Orwell's 1984 is set in London.  There are three world powers at the time: Oceania (where this book takes place), Eurasia, and Eastasia.  It is ran by a totalitarian form of government, known as Big Brother.  Big Brother sees everything you do and hears everything you say; even your thoughts are not safe inside your own head.

The primary character is Winston.  He is a 39 year old man who woks at the Ministry of Truth.  His job is to make sure that articles, magazines, and books match up to Big Brother's predictions and works; if they do not, it is his job to alter them.  Unfortunately for him, his thoughts do not mirror that of the Party.  He doesn't forget the things that he is supposed to forget and he thinks too critically and logically for his status.  Of course, Big Brother won't like this if they find out, so Winston must always keep his composure, give the right and answers and the right facial expressions.  Will he succeed and can he make a difference in this thoughtless, grey world?

I absolutely loved this book.  It kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.   There are three parts to the story.  During parts one and two, I hadn't figured out the ending, yet midway through part three, I had kind of pieced it all together.  Even though I already had an idea of how it would all end, I was still captured by the story.

Anyone who likes societal stories would love this book.  It is sort of likeThe Giver in a sense, yet a negative utopia rather than a positive one, and also more adult.  If you enjoy reading about different societies,, I would definitely give this book a go.
